Updating the Desktop
This guide details the methods for updating the desktop operating system on TechLit computers.

Recommended Method: Components Manager (via USB)
This is the simplest method for updating a standard desktop computer, especially when it is offline.
1. Prepare the USB Drive

If your USB drive doesn’t already contain the desired update, you must prepare it first. On a computer that has the downloaded update files, sync the components to your USB drive. This command copies the admin and desktop components.
# List connected drives to identify your USB
lsblk
# Run the sync command (replace /dev/sdX with your USB device)
tl-usb-update-components /dev/sdX2. Update The Computer
Once the USB is prepared, you can use it to update another computer’s desktop OS.
Launch the USB Updater
- Insert the prepared USB drive into the destination computer.
- Open the application menu and search for “Manage Components”.
- In the application, select Update → Update Desktop (Using USB).
- Choose your USB drive from the list that appears.
Complete the Update
The system updates automatically.
Tip
Once the update process begins and you see messages about “unpacking” on the screen, you can safely unplug the USB drive and use it on another computer.
Once it is finished, press Y to reboot the computer, or reboot it manually.
